A challenge that I took on this month was to define the word “Summer” in a photograph. To me summer isn’t the same without a health dose of nostalgia. When I was young my parents had a tent-trailer and my brother and I would look forward to camping in it all year. Come July and August they would load up the car (it was a silver Monte Carlo with plush burgundy interior), hitch up the trailer and we would head off for a weekend of fun. In one of my mom’s photo albums there is a photograph of me and a “friend” I had met at the campground lying on the ground with elk in the background. So this summer when we encountered elk grazing in the playground in Jasper National park I asked my two youngest kids to lie on the ground and re-create one of my favorite photographs. To me camping means summer; and every time I load up the car (now a white mini van named Vince) and hitch up the tent-trailer I know I am heading off for a summer adventure filled with fun!
Next up check out Livermore, Ca Family Photographer Krista Lund and her take on “Summer”!!!
