bou·quet
According to “How stuff works” the origins of the wedding bouquet likely stem from warding off evil (and possibly warding off the plague). Brides would carry bouquets of garlic, herbs and dill for this purpose, thankfully over time flowers have replaced the garlic and dill 🙂 By Victorian times flowers were predominate in bouquets and flowers had even become a way to send secret love messages. Different shades of the same flower could have different meanings (this must have made it hard to send a bouquet). Here are some different meanings for carnations :
- CARNATION General – Fascination; Divine Love
- CARNATION Pink – I’ll Never Forget You
- CARNATION Purple – Capriciousness
- CARNATION Red – My Heart Aches for You; Admiration
- CARNATION Striped – No; Refusal; Sorry I Can’t Be with You: Wish l Could Be with You
- CARNATION White – Sweet and Lovely; Innocence; Pure Love; Woman’s Good Luck Gift
- CARNATION Yellow – You Have Disappointed Me; Rejection
